Artist's Profile
After graduating from NAFA and pursuing a career as an interior designer, I encountered many clients who struggled to style up their living space. At a time when sourcing for art in Singapore was difficult, I delved into producing art to be presented as gifts to my clients — a moment that unexpectedly sparked my artistic journey.
My main mantra has always been this - “the real artist is not me, but God”. Painting felt like coming to a place of complete surrender. Oftentimes, my best works come from embracing the spirit of letting go rather than forcing an outcome. Every brushstroke reflects a quiet sense of faith, emotion, and openness to the unexpected.
One of my first pieces, Quiet Moments, evokes the serenity of green pastures inspired by biblical imagery from Psalms 23:2.
I first began showcasing my paintings at Marquis, and am currently consigning my paintings with Minotti at Raffles Hotel, where they complement refined contemporary interiors with warmth and depth.
Unveil
Unveil explores the interplay between veiling and revelation. Rendered in a palette of earthy tones, the piece evokes a sense of quiet introspection, where absence can carry as much presence. As layers of paint peel away, they reveal the raw canvas beneath. The unpainted ground becomes a space of contemplation, open for viewers to consider the dichotomy of what is concealed and what is uncovered in the abstract art.
Genesis
Genesis marks the artist's birthday as a celebration of life. Inspired by the words, “Let there be light,” the painting reflects the moment of creation, where light reveals new beginnings and endless possibilities.
The first layers of paint are applied thinly across the canvas, evoking the quiet emptiness before creation. As the work unfolds, successive layers of teal green, blue, black, and radiant yellow emerge, building depth and evoking nature’s vitality to reflect the gradual formation of life.
Among these rich, textured colours, black drips quietly interrupt the composition, serving as subtle traces of humanity's fragility and it’s fall. The work depicts the Garden of Eden and its abundance and flourishing of life, marred by the shadow of choice that accompanies innocence.
Together, these colour layerings embody the unfolding of creation, celebrating renewal, growth, and the enduring warmth of nature.
